What happens on my first day as an international student?
Find out what to expect on your first day at NMIT, including enrolment, orientation, and meeting your programme team.
We look forward to welcoming you to NMIT. If you arrive before your scheduled start date, you're welcome to visit us so we can help you settle in before your studies begin.
Completing your enrolment:On your first day, visit the International Enrolments Team in A Block with your:
- Passport
- Student visa
Your Offer of Place contains the date, time, and location for your enrolment appointment.
Once your enrolment is complete, you'll receive your NMIT Student Identification Card (SID). Your SID is used for:
- Borrowing books from the library
- Photocopying and printing
- Accessing selected buildings
- Receiving student discounts at participating businesses, such as cinemas and food outlets
The International Enrolments Team will also explain your visa conditions and provide information about your insurance.
Attend your orientation:
After enrolling, you'll attend an orientation session with the Learner Success team, located in the Library.
During orientation, you'll learn about:
- Logging in to the NMIT network
- Accessing Moodle
- Connecting to Wi-Fi (bring your phone or laptop)
- Accessing your NMIT student email
- Setting up a New Zealand bank account
- Local services, including doctors, police, and supermarkets
- Learner Services and SANITI
- Community groups and support services to help you settle in and stay safe
- A guided campus tour
Meet your programme team:
After orientation, you'll be introduced to your programme area administrator, who will help you get started with your studies.
