What are the rules for using NMIT computer facilities?
NMIT's computer facilities are provided for educational purposes and must be used responsibly and in accordance with NMIT policies.
NMIT's computer network and facilities are provided to support teaching, learning, and study. All current students are welcome to use these resources for educational purposes.
Acceptable use:You are expected to use NMIT computer facilities responsibly and in a way that does not negatively affect other users or the security of the network.
Prohibited activities:The following activities are not permitted:
- Installing unlicensed, inappropriate, or illegal software on NMIT computers or the network.
- Copying software without authorisation.
- Using the network for gaming or private business activities.
- Accessing, creating, storing, or distributing offensive, unlawful, or inappropriate material, including pornography.
- Attempting to gain unauthorised access to systems or files, including hacking or attempting to modify system software.
- Disrupting other users by changing workstation settings, downloading excessively large files, or printing unusually large print jobs.
- Copying files to or from the network that are not your own work or that you are not authorised to access.
Failure to follow these rules may result in the loss of access to NMIT computer facilities and may lead to further disciplinary action under NMIT policies.
