How does eBook Central work?

ProQuest eBook Central gives NMIT students access to a large collection of eBooks that can be read online or downloaded for offline use.

With eBook Central, you can:

• Browse and borrow eBooks.
• Read eBooks online or offline.
• Print up to 20% of an eBook.
• Copy and paste up to 5% of an eBook.
• Create notes and bookmarks.

Why are some eBooks available immediately while others are not?
Availability depends on the licence purchased for each title.

• Multi-user titles can be accessed by several people at the same time. After an initial 10-minute browse period, you'll be prompted to borrow the book, and the loan is usually available immediately.
• Single or limited-user titles allow only one to three users to access the eBook at the same time. If all available copies are in use, you'll need to wait until one becomes available.

How do I download an eBook for offline reading?
You only need to download an eBook if you want to:

• Read it without an internet connection.
• Read it on a compatible mobile device or e-reader.

Where available, we recommend using Download PDF Chapter instead of downloading the entire eBook. PDF chapters:

• Are easier to download.
• Do not expire.
• Can be saved for future reference.

 Reading downloaded eBooks

On a Windows or Mac computer:
Downloaded eBooks are read using Adobe Digital Editions.

Before downloading an eBook, install the free Adobe Digital Editions software. Installation instructions are available from the Download an eBook link on the eBook Central homepage.

On a mobile device:
If you're using your own phone or tablet, install the free Bluefire Reader app from your device's app store before downloading an eBook.
