How do I install Microsoft 365 Apps as an NMIT student?

NMIT students can install Microsoft 365 Apps on up to five personal devices while they are enrolled.

As an NMIT student, you can install Microsoft 365 Apps on up to five personally owned devices. The applications available will vary depending on the type of device you are using.

Before you begin:

Use the device on which you want to install Microsoft 365 Apps, as the installation steps differ for computers and mobile devices.

Note: If you are connected to the NMIT NMIFI wireless network and experience problems downloading Microsoft 365 Apps, try installing them using your home internet connection or another less heavily used network.

Install Microsoft 365 Apps on a Windows PC or Mac:
  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 software installation page.
  2. Sign in using your NMIT Microsoft 365 account if prompted.
  3. Select Install Office.
  4. Choose the 32-bit version (recommended by NMIT unless you have a specific requirement for 64-bit).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Recommended operating systems:

  • Windows 11
  • Windows 10
  • macOS Catalina 10.15 or later

Install Microsoft 365 Apps on a mobile device:
  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 software installation page.
  2. Select your device type:
    • iOS
    • Android
    • Windows Mobile
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Alternatively, you can install individual Microsoft apps directly from your device's app store.

Common apps include:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft OneNote
Compatibility
  • Not all devices are compatible with Microsoft 365 Apps.
  • If your device is unsupported, you may see a message stating "Your device is not compatible with this version."
  • Some Microsoft applications are not available on every platform.
Maintaining your Microsoft 365 subscription:

To keep your Microsoft 365 Apps fully activated, you must sign in and use an Office application at least once every 30 days. If you do not, the applications will enter reduced functionality mode, allowing you to view and print documents only.

While you remain enrolled at NMIT, simply signing back into a Microsoft 365 application restores full functionality.

What happens after I finish studying?

Your Microsoft 365 student licence expires three months after your course end date.

After your licence expires, you will only be able to view and print existing documents. To continue creating and editing documents, you'll need to purchase a personal Microsoft 365 subscription using your own Microsoft account.
