How do I get a student ID card?

Find out who is eligible for an NMIT student ID card, where to collect it, how to replace it, and how to submit your own photo.

Eligible NMIT students will receive a student ID card, which can be used to access campus services and obtain student discounts at selected retailers.

Note: Students enrolled in Short Courses are not eligible for a student ID card.

When will I receive my student ID card?

  • New students will usually receive their student ID card with the rest of their class during the first few weeks of their programme.
  • Returning students can request a new student ID card after their programme start date.

Your student ID photo is stored in NMIT's student management system and may also be used for other internal administrative purposes.

Where can I get my student ID card?
You can collect your student ID card from:

  • The Enrolments Office at the Nelson campus
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 am–5:00 pm
    • Friday: 8:00 am–4:30 pm
  • The Administration Office at the Marlborough campus
  • The Administration Office at the Richmond campus

What name will appear on my student ID card?
Your student ID card will display your legal first name and surname.

If you would like your preferred name (not a nickname) to appear instead, email angela.scott@nmit.ac.nz with your request.

Can I provide my own photo?
If you wish to provide your own photo (especially important if you are studying off campus or unable to visit us during the day), you can submit your own photo.

Please email the following to enrolments@nmit.ac.nz:

  • A passport-style photo that meets New Zealand Passport Office photo requirements
  • A copy of your photo identification (such as your passport or driver licence) to verify your identity
  • Your student ID number in the email

Your photo should:

Replacing your student ID card:
Student ID cards are valid only for the year in which they are issued.

  • If you continue your studies in a later year, you can request a new card after your programme starts.
  • If you lose your current year's student ID card and require a replacement, a $15.00 reprint fee applies.
