Can I extend my library loans or renew my books?
Learn how to renew your NMIT Library loans, when renewals are available, and what to do if you are unable to renew your items.
Most NMIT Library items can be renewed twice, provided they meet the renewal conditions.
How long is a renewal?A renewal extends your loan by the same length as the original loan period. For example:
- A 3-week loan renews for another 3 weeks.
- A 3-day loan renews for another 3 days.
Note: Renewals begin from the date you renew the item, not from its original due date.
When can I renew a loan?
You can renew an item if there are no pending reservations and:
- Main Collection items are no more than 7 days overdue.
- 3-Day Loan Collection items are no more than 1 day overdue.
How do I renew my library loans?
You can renew your loans by:
- Signing in to your Library account through Library Catalogue / My Library
- Using the Liberty Link mobile app (installation instructions are available at the bottom of the Library Catalogue page)
- Using a Self Issue machine at the Nelson or Marlborough campus libraries (you will need your student ID card or a photo of it)

If you are unable to renew your loans yourself, you can:
- Reply to your overdue notice to request a renewal
- Email library@nmit.ac.nz
- Phone the Library on 03 539 5068
- Visit the Library in person
Overdue loans:
You cannot borrow additional library items while you have overdue loans.
